What's the Code of Operation?

The Code of Operation (Code) is an industry standard published by Services Australia. It is designed to assist customers to access sufficient income from their eligible Services Australia income support or Department of Veterans’ Affairs payments during recovery of debts.

If your bank account that receives your eligible payment becomes overdrawn, this can result in a reduction in the amount of that payment you can access.  The Code aims to ensure that despite your account being overdrawn, you can still access enough money to pay for basic food and accommodation.

What the Code means for you?

As a participant of the Code, we acknowledge your entitlement to access a minimum of 90% of your eligible payment every fortnight. To get help with accessing your eligible payments, please contact us for assistance.

The Code outlines a best practice agreement for:

  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs
  • Services Australia
  • Australian Finance Industry Association
  • Australian Banking Association
  • Customer Owned Banking Association for members that are signatories to the Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice

To review the Code, you can visit the Services Australia website.
