International transfers

International transfers can be performed via many different third parties that offer foreign exchange services.

If you already have an account with a third party provider, please go direct to their website to submit an international transfer.

You are responsible for choosing your own international transfer provider.

We’re no longer processing overseas payments on your behalf.

Receiving money from an overseas account

All payments from an overseas account to your bank account can only be made in Australian dollars. All payments made in foreign currency will be returned to sender.

Returns can take up to 10 working days and, while we won’t deduct any fees, fees may be incurred from intermediary banks. This means the sender may receive less funds than what was originally sent.

Funds can be transferred from an overseas bank account into the following accounts:

  • Macquarie Transaction Account
  • Macquarie Savings Account
  • Macquarie Business Savings Account
  • Macquarie Home Loan (Home Loan or Offset Account that has a BSB starting with 182)
  • Macquarie Cash Management Account
  • Macquarie Consolidator Cash Account
  • Macquarie Vision Cash Account.

When depositing funds into your account, the depositor or remitter needs to include the following details:

  • Bank name: Macquarie Bank Limited
  • Bank address: 50 Martin Place, Sydney, NSW 2000
  • SWIFT (BIC): MACQAU2S
  • Your account name
  • Your account number
  • Your account BSB number.

What’s a SWIFT or BIC Code?

A SWIFT code, also known as a Bank Identifier Code (BIC), is an 8-11 character code that identifies banks and financial institutions internationally.

Macquarie’s SWIFT code is MACQAU2S. You’ll need to provide this code to anyone sending money to your Macquarie bank account from overseas.

Please note some depositors require extra characters – in this situation you can enter three X's eg MACQAU2SXXX

What’s an IBAN?

An International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is used in some countries to identify specific bank accounts. IBANs aren’t used in Australia however payers in certain countries may require you to provide one. In that case, your BSB and account number should be combined. Do not include any spaces or hyphens. Example, BSB 182-182 Acc Num 1234-5678, IBAN: 18218212345678.
