To open a Macquarie Transaction Account you’ll need to download the Macquarie Mobile Banking app or complete our online application. We’ve designed this process to be as quick and easy as possible, so that you can start using your account straight away. Before we can open your account, we’ll need to verify your identity and may ask you for some additional information. We recommend reading our terms and conditions before applying.

To apply for a Macquarie Transaction Account:

  1. Go to macquarie.com.au and select Everyday banking
  2. Under Transaction Account, click Find out more
  3. Select Open an account.

If you need to pause your application partway through, we’ll send you an email so you can resume it when you’re ready.

Once you open a Macquarie Transaction Account, you can link a savings account in online banking by selecting Accounts and clicking Open an account in the menu.

To open a joint or shared Savings account, first you’ll need to open a joint Macquarie Transaction Account.

On the last step of the application form you’ll be asked if you want the Macquarie Transaction Account to be a single or joint account.

If you select joint account, you can either invite a second applicant to complete the application in their own time or complete the application together.

If the second applicant is already a Macquarie customer, they’ll receive a push notification in mobile or online banking and an email to approve or deny the application.

We don’t have any deposit conditions on Transaction Accounts, Offset Accounts or Savings Accounts, to get access to our great benefits and earn interest.

For example, you don’t need to make a minimum monthly deposit to use the platinum benefits or make free ATM withdrawals.

We don’t charge fees on Transaction Accounts, Offset Accounts or Savings Accounts.

We provide a refund on fees incurred at all ATMs in Australia.

We don’t charge fees to withdraw cash overseas or make international purchases. Other financial institutions, such as the banks of international merchants and international ATM operators, may charge you fees for these transactions.

You can add a tax file number (TFN) or tax file number exemption on Macquarie Online Banking for the following eligible accounts:

  • Macquarie Transaction Account
  • Macquarie Savings Account
  • Macquarie Cash Management Account with a BSB of 182-182

To add a TFN or TFN exemption:

  1. Log into Macquarie Online Banking
  2. Hover over your Macquarie Transaction Account, Macquarie Savings Account or Macquarie Cash Management Account with a BSB of 182-182
  3. Select I want to
  4. Select Provide tax details (or Manage tax details if you have already provided your tax details) in the menu drop-down
  5. Follow the instructions to add your TFN or TFN exemption to your eligible accounts.


Please note, if you are a joint account holder, you can only update your own individual tax details.

If both account holders wish to update their tax details, each of you must login with your own Macquarie ID and provide your own TFN or exemption.

It usually takes 2-3 business days for the accounts you select to be updated with your tax details. You will receive a notification in your bell icon when your account details have been updated.

Why can’t I add my tax details to my other accounts?

Our systems currently only support adding tax details online for Macquarie Transaction Accounts, Macquarie Savings Accounts and Macquarie Cash Management Accounts with a BSB of 182-182.

We’re working hard to include more products soon. If you want to add your tax details for your other accounts, you can call us on 133 174.

Pay Anyone payments

A daily payment limit applies to Pay Anyone payments made via Macquarie Online Banking or the Macquarie Mobile Banking app from your Macquarie accounts to another Australian bank account.

  • With Macquarie Authenticator, your daily transfer limit is $100,000 across all your eligible accounts linked to your Macquarie ID
  • Without Macquarie Authenticator your daily transfer limit is $2,000 across all your eligible accounts linked to your Macquarie ID.


To transfer more than $2,000 per day, you’ll need to download and set up the Macquarie Authenticator app.

These payment limits apply when you transfer funds electronically from a Macquarie account via Macquarie Online Banking or the Macquarie Mobile Banking app to another Australian bank account for all Pay Anyone and New Payments Platform (NPP) payments.

If you don’t have Macquarie Authenticator and make a transfer of $1,000, your remaining transfer limit is $1,000 across all your accounts linked to your Macquarie ID for that same day. View our

There is no daily limit for transfers between your Macquarie accounts, to your nominated account/s (if you’ve set one up), or to the Australian Tax Office.

For payments over $100,000, you can use one of the following options:

(a) Nominate an account

If you have a Cash Management Account and you intend to make multiple payments over $100,000 to the same account, you'll need to complete a Macquarie Account Nomination form.

(b) Complete a withdrawal form

If you intend to make a one-off payment over $100,000, complete one of the following forms:

  • For bank accounts, use this form
  • For Home Loans offset accounts with a BSB starting with 182, use this form
  • For Home Loan offset accounts with a BSB starting with 183, use this form.


BPAY

Typically there is no limit on BPAY® payments. Please be aware that some billers impose their own limits on the amount that they will accept in a single transaction or day.

Third party authority

If you’ve authorised a third party to transact on your account/s, these daily payment limits will also apply to them. If they use Macquarie Authenticator, they’ll have their own daily transfer limit of $100,000 on your account/s that’s in addition to your transfer limit.
