Spotlight on business

The makings, secrets and strategies of BlueRock

Four learnings

01

Brand

From the beginning, BlueRock has used brand to differentiate itself as a place to work, and a business to work with. “It’s a brand that represents business as an adventure,” says Lalor. “We want people that look at everything we do going – I want these people to be sitting next to me when I go on this adventure.”

02

People

Business leaders know the importance of hiring the right people. For BlueRock, this is a non-negotiable and mission-critical component of its business strategy. “As the firm has grown, there’s been a linear relationship between the revenue that we’ve managed to grow by, and the people who have delivered it,” Lalor says.

03

Purpose

BlueRock’s leaders treat purpose as its strategic springboard. “When I work with people who are fixated on making lots of money, I actually know the outcome they’re going to get is the wrong one for themselves and who they are looking after,” Lalor says.  “When you have a clear purpose, doing something because you actually believe in it, the money will come.”

04

Technology

The technology lens is fundamental to all elements of BlueRock’s business, particularly when it comes to setting and meeting ambitious growth targets. “We can’t scale revenue and opportunity without change,” says Lalor, "and the change we have introduced is technology.”

Business with heart

Leading and running a business often involves balancing the friction of growing into a bigger organisation using the same energy, drive and ingenuity that often occurs more naturally when you’re a smaller one.

CEO and Managing Director of BlueRock, Peter Lalor, has never lost sight of how powerful that founding purpose, spirit and operating rhythm can be. It’s often a catalyst for innovation and efficiency, team camaraderie and meeting ambitious growth targets – and expanding BlueRock’s suite of services which include wealth, digital, accounting, law and finance.

The simple, foundational principles of taking care of your people, loving what you do and simplifying services for your clients are the centre of gravity BlueRock builds around as it eyes international expansion, and carves out plans to make business easier, and more exciting, for its clients.
