Become the servicing adviser on a client’s account

To become the servicing adviser on a client’s account you'll need to be granted permission from either the client, the previous adviser or the changing dealer.

Client signed requests

Clients can approve the change of a new servicing adviser on their account by either:

  • completing a Third Party Authority form appointing the new adviser. This form is available at Adviser Tools; OR
  • providing a signed letter, as per the client’s signing instructions, appointing the new adviser.

For more information about Third Party Authority forms, see the Help Centre article on Third party authority to access.

Adviser/Dealer requests

New advisers can be approved by either the same dealer (if the transfer is internal) or by an external broker (if the client moved from one dealer group to another).

Transfer clients between adviser codes within your dealer group

To transfer accounts within the same licensee, submit a Change of Primary Adviser form available on Adviser Tools and submit the document to adviser@macquarie.com.

Please note:

  • Only active accounts will be transferred. Closed accounts can be transferred on request with relevant approval.
  • Existing automated plans will be transferred across with each of the accounts. It's important that automatic features are checked after transferring clients.

Transfer clients to a new licensee

Before transferring clients to your new licensee, please note that your new dealer must be registered with us. If your dealer isn’t registered with us, you can sign them up. For more information see Register as a dealer or adviser.

To transfer accounts from one dealer to another, submit a Change of Primary Adviser form available on Adviser Tools along with:

  • a Letter of Release from the previous dealer on their letterhead, signed by either a director, compliance or administration manager, stating that they authorise the transfer of all, or a specified list of, the adviser’s clients to the new dealer; AND
  • the adviser to be registered with the new licensee. For more information, see Adviser Online new registrations and access levels.

This can be emailed to adviser@macquarie.com.

Please note:

  • If you’re using Model Portfolios, these won’t transfer across to the new dealer. Before sending off this request, please download the details of the required models and which accounts are linked to them so you can set them back up after the change has been processed.
  • Existing automated plans will be transferred across with each of the accounts. Please double check automatic features after transferring clients.
  • Only active accounts will be transferred. Closed accounts can be transferred on request with relevant approval (if moving to a new dealer, the previous dealer will need to release these accounts).
  • Where the previous adviser/business has been appointed with Third Party Authority and
    • the adviser/business is remaining the same: adviser level authorities are carried across.
    • the adviser/business is changing: adviser level authorities are revoked and we’ll require a new Third Party Authority form signed by each client to update these authorities.
  • Where the dealer has been appointed with Third Party Authority and
    • the dealer is remaining the same: dealer level authorities remain.
    • the dealer is changing: dealer level authorities are revoked and we’ll require a new third party authority form signed by each client to update these authorities.
