Macquarie Funds Management appoints Head Of Research

Macquarie Funds Management has appointed Dr Lloyd Alty as Head of Research within the Domestic Cash and Fixed Interest and Currency Division.

Dr Alty joins Macquarie Funds Management from CBA where he was Head of Structured FX in the FX trading team.

He and his team were responsible for advising clients on FX option related strategies as well as trading and pricing exotic options.

Prior to this role Dr Alty was at ABN AMRO, initially joining as Associate Director Quantitative Research. As well as providing quantitative support for the trading and sales teams, Dr Alty designed and built many of the systems used by the ABN AMRO Debt Markets Team.

Dr Alty was then promoted to Associate Director Credit and CPI Trading where he ran the CPI-Linked bond, CPI-Linked swap and interest rate options trading books.

As Head of Research for Macquarie Funds Management, Dr Alty will utilise his quantitative research skills and hands-on trading experience to further enhance Macquarie's Fixed Interest and Currency investment processes and systems.

He will be instrumental in developing new techniques for the Fixed Interest and Currency team's security selection and valuation models.

Dr Alty has overall responsibility for the Research Group which comprises four quantitative analysts. He will report to the Head of Fixed Interest and Currency, Wayne Fitzgibbon.

Dr Alty holds a PhD from Cambridge University, where he studied in Professor Stephen Hawking's team at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. He will use his widely regarded mathematical skills in the continued development of Macquarie Funds Management's investment processes and to provide thought leadership in the development of research articles and seminars for the external marketplace.

Macquarie's 26 strong Cash and Fixed Interest Team is recognised as one of the largest and most experienced in the Australian marketplace.

Macquarie manages more than $5 billion in credit-enhanced cash funds and specialist corporate debt funds. These are designed for medium-term investors seeking higher returns from cash and fixed interest portfolios through credit exposure and security selection.

The funds are offered in a diverse range of risk profiles.
